Palos Verdes is a pictureque coastal town with a mix of old and new. Many homes have views--depending on the location. Coves small bays, city lights or San Pedro's harbor adds to the Peninsula charm. Up the hill from the beach or "flat lands", the pensinsula ascends into hills divided by canyons. The population is distributed between four cities and two unicorporated areas. The four municipalities are: Palos Verdes Estates, Rolling Hills (commonly refered to as behind the gates), Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes. The two unicorporated are Academy Hill and Westield. They share libraries and schools and contract for many services with Los Angeles County. Each city makes it's own distinctive contribution to the peninsula resort living. In total, the Palos Verdes community is noted for it's top rated schools, beautiful landscape and resort activities such as: horseback riding, swimming, golfing, tennis, and (within a short distance) surfing.
